3rd place finish at the year ending Enduro

A beautiful day in Gimli, Manitoba as the club held its final race of the season.  2 Practice session followed by a 35 lap endurance race would be the schedule for the day.  During the first practice session Richert's kart #82 was having trouble finding grip around the track.  Between the sessions, changes were made to try and adjust the kart set-up to provide more grip.  During the second session there was a definite increase in grip but the problem was that there was now too much understeer.  A decision had to be made on what to do for the 35 lap race.  It was determined that a kart that understeered that badly would be too tiring for the lengthy race distance so the initial set-up was restored.  And Richert figured that by putting on newer tires and the temperature increase should provide more grip as the race went on.

6 Rotax karts took to the track for the race.  Richert started 5th for the race and was ready to set into a comfortable pace for the race.  After several karts spun out, he found himself in 4th position.  Gaining on the 3rd place kart, Richert tried to pass on the inside of the parabolica but ran wide and lost a great deal of ground.  Over the next few laps he fought back to the rear bumper of the kart ahead.  Knowing it was a long race and the first and second place karts were now too far ahead, Richert decided to sit and wait till the final few laps of the race to make a move.  He had several opportunities to make a pass by it was deemed to risky so the waiting continued.  The white flag came out catchin David off gaurd as it was now or never.  Not close enough in the hairpin, he would have to wait for the parabolica to again try a move on the inside.  Fortunately, this time it worked out as he was able to dive to the inside of the track and grab 3rd place and a podium spot.

The enduro race was also a charity race as all the entry fees were donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.  It was a great end to the year.
